One of the most hotly debated of the sugar issues is whether or not the consumption of sugar has risen over the years. The per capita consumption of sugar and other caloric sweeteners has barely changed in the last fifty years. The peak years for total use are 1930 and 1976. There has been, however, a dramatic rise in the use of corn sugar. A graph indicated the changes in total caloric sweetner consumption from 1875 to 1975.
