The influence of cations on glucose uptake by the fungus dendryphiella salina
1970
ALLAWAY, A. E. | JENNINGS, D. H.
The effect of potassium, sodium and bivalent cations, particularly calcium, on glucose uptake by Dendryphiella salina was investigated. Sodium reduces glucose uptake, but calcium ions overcome this inhibition. In all instances, there is a linear relationship between glucose uptake and the mycelial potassium content. If the mycelium is allowed to reabsorb potassium ions which have been lost, there is a different relationship, the exact form of which has been difficult to determine. When potassium ions are added to the medium, glucose uptake is slightly inhibited. Suggestions are put forward for these differences.
