Food as a likely source of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
1987
Subramaniam, L. | Shriniwas.
Extract: Different food samples (68) from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, New Delhi, were tested for Ps. aeruginosa. Twelve (17.64%) samples yielded the organism; 6 isolates could be typed by aeruginocin typing method and 6 were non-typeable. Three of 6 isolates (50.0%) tested by rabbit ileal loop method produced enterotoxin. Hospital food therefore may serve as a reservoir for Ps. aeruginosa which may result in colonisation and infection and the enterotoxigenic strains may lead to diarrhoeal episodes.(author)
