Galindo-Gonzalez, G. | Mena-Covarrubias, J.
To determine the degree of exposure of peach growers to a technological almanac with recommendations for fruit growing, a study was carried out in Jerez de Garcia Salinas, in the state of Zacatecas, Mexico, during 2000. To this end, an almanac ("American sheet" type) was designed and printed. This contained technical recommendations for growing peaches, linked to a logical sequence of the calendar based on the phenological development of this fruit tree. During January of that year, almanacs were given to a group of 250 peach growers; afterwards, a 52-question interview (open and closed questions) was applied to a sample of 25 randomly selected growers. The variables measured were related to the technological almanac, the fruit growers' habits of communication, their production units, and some specifics of their personal characteristics. A high level of exposure of the peach growers to the almanac was found: they expressed knowledge of its content and they applied some of the recommendations given in the calendar on their orchards.
