Importance of dietary salt in the hemodynamic adjustment to weight reduction in obese hypertensive men
1984
Andersson, Ove K. | Fagerberg, Bjorn | Hedner, Thomas
A randomized study of 23 moderately-obese hypertensive men assessed the effects of a calorie-restricted diet (diet A) vs. a calorie-restricted, sodium-restricted diet (diet B) on blood pressure (BP). The results indicated that hemodynamic adjustment and a reduced BP were associated with diet B, but not with diet A. Both diets, however, produced a reduction of sympathetic nervous tone. Urinary and plasma norepinephrine, sodium balance, plasma volum, and body weight reduction also were measured. (wz)
