A New Plant Growth Technique for the Most-Probable-Number Estimation of Rhizobium
1983
Garvin, S. | Lindemann, W. C.
A new system for growing plants in the most-probable-number (MPN) estimation of Rhizobium is described. Beans, peanuts, and alfalfa were grown in small plastic cone-tainers and inoculated with suspensions of rhizobia. The number of rhizobia in pure culture, inoculants, and soil was satisfactorily estimated using cone-tainers for host plant growth. Most-probable-number counts of R. phaseoli were comparable in growth pouches and cone-tainers. The cone-tainer system saves bench space and costs less than other presently used techniques.
