Changes in fruit consumption preferences in EU countries: the example of Poland
2015
Klepacka, A. M. | Florkowski, W. J. | Meng, T.
The liberalization of fruit trade for ten new EU member countries following accession in 2004 saw the pattern of fruit consumption change the proportion of domestic and foreign-origin fruit. The preferences varied across social strata and location creating challenges for distribution and postharvest handling for suppliers. Domestic fruit growers face unknown levels of competition in the fresh fruit market. Apple and berry growers saw the per capita consumption of these fruit decline and must now adapt to new consumer expectations and demand.
