Proximate and mineral content of fast foods. Pizzas, Mexican-American-style foods, and submarine sandwiches
1979
Appledorf, H. | Kelly, L.S.
A nutritional analysis of several different types of fast foods ranging from thick and thin crust pizza to Mexican tacos indicated that fast foods can be a source of considerable nutrition. When compared with the Recommended Dietary Allowances for 15-18 year olds, fast foods provided approximately 25% of the allowance for protein. A 12-inch cheese pizza was more adequate in all nutrients studied and nearly provided the total allowance for calcium. With iron being a problem in the diet of teen-age girls, the iron content in the pizza and submarine sandwiches was significant. Zinc and energy levels were also high.
