Effects of biotin deficiency on serum fatty acid composition: evidence for abnormalities in humans
1988
Mock, D.M. | Johnson, S.B. | Holman, R.T.
A study determined fatty acid profiles in serum phospholipids, cholesteryl esters, triglycerides, and free fatty acids in 3 patients who developed a biotin deficiency while on parenteral feeding. The results indicated that odd-chain fatty acid levels were increased in each of the 4 lipid classes examined. This was corrected by biotin supplementation. A possible mechanism for this effect is discussed.(wz)
