Examining the Effective Use of OnePlan Nutrient Management Planning Software Implementation in Oregon and Idaho

The role of agricultural waste management planning has evolved over the course of many years. What used to be recorded with a pencil and paper on a notepad in a truck is now calculated in a carefully designed software package. What is the difference and is all the extra work worth the outcome? In the Pacific Northwest, specifically Oregon and Idaho, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has released a software package available for nutrient management planning called the OnePlan Nutrient Management Planner (NMP). OnePlan NMP is a planning, modeling and reporting tool for Comprehensive Nutrient Management Planning (CNMP). OnePlan NMP will be compared to another CNMP development tool, Manure Management Planner (MMP), for use in Oregon and Idaho. Among other topics, one of differences that will be evaluated is the ability of OnePlan NMP and MMP to account for wet winters and dry summers specific to outdoor storage needs in the Pacific Northwest. The results of a CNMP software evaluation survey are also included.
