A case-control study of angina pectoris (AP) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) examined the association between adipose linoleic acid (ALA) and platelet-membrane eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and found inverse association between ALA and EPA and AP risk. An inverse relationship also was found between ALA and risk, but linoleic acid intakes were less for smokers. The implications of these findings for coronary heart disease risk are discussed.(wz)
