Status of nutrition in the nation with attention to children
1978
Dwyer, Johanna T.
Extract: The current nutritional status of children is examined, and directions for future priorities are noted. Although child health has improved, problems still exist, such as the relatively high death rate of black compared to white infants, low iron status, high incidence of dental caries and other dental problems, and inequities in availability of health services. Specific concerns related to child health and food habits are identified: content of food information directed to children; understanding of relationships of food, eating habits, and chronic diseases; and the need for teaching preventive nutrition and for keeping food assistance programs strong.
