2011
Sabarinathan, K.G. | Gomathy, M.
Although the potential of cyanobacteria as biofertilizers is well known, the attention has recently been focused on the biotechnological potentials of cyanobacteria for obtaining industrially valuable compounds like pigments, amino acids, fatty acids, restriction enzymes, antibiotic compounds etc. A large array of natural products of economic importance which are ecofriendly particularly pigments can be produced from cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are considered to be a potential source of biocolours for food, cosmetic and medical industries. This review sums up the scientific data on the key biopigments present in cyanobacteria and its uses.
