The present study aim to evaluate effect of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) of coal mine effluent water on certain haematological parameters viz., Total erythrocyte count (TEC), Haemoglobin (Hb), Oxygen Carrying Capacity (OCC), Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin (MCH), Mean Cell Haemoglobin Concentration (MCHC), Differential Leukocyte Count (DLC) and cellular and nuclear anomalies of blood cells in Channa punctatus (Bloch). After detecting the LC50, fishes were treated with sub-lethal concentration of effluent water (pH-2.7) for 2, 6, 10 and 15 days. It has been observed a gradual significant decrease in TEC, Hb, OCC, PCV and MCV as compared to that of control but slight fluctuation in the level of MCH and MCHC and increase in the number of lymphocyte and basophil in treated fishes. Deformed nucleus, cytoplasmic vaculation, cell swelling, hemolysis are some prominent abnormalities observed in the blood cells of treated group.
