A study was conducted to determine the effect of foliar fertilization and inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) seedlings. Thirty-day-old seedlings were transplanted and inoculated with 10 g of inoculum of the mycorrhizal consortium Glomus Zac-19. During 125 days, two solutions of commercial foliar fertilizer formulations were applied every 15 days. One consisted of 10 g of mineral fertilizer 31-11-11 NPK (Agroleaf, Scotts) diluted in a liter of water, and the second consisted of 17.5 mL of organic fertilizer Humiforte (based on amino acids) diluted in a liter of water. Treatments consisted of control plants, inoculated plants, plants fertilized with each fertilizer source, and plants with the combination of the mycorrhizal consortium and the fertilizer sources. After 90 days, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, concentration of CO2, and chlorophyll content (a, b and total) in leaves were measured. Plants were harvested 125 days after transplanting, and leaf area, leaf dry mass, root volume, leaf nitrogen content, and mycorrhizal colonization were evaluated. The photosynthesis rate was higher in plants inoculated with Glomus Zac-19; nevertheless, no differences were observed between treatments. Treatments of Glomus Zac-19 and Glomus Zac-19 with organic fertilizers presented the highest chlorophyll a content. Plant biomass and nitrogen content were significantly increased by mycorrhizal inoculation. Positive interaction was observed between the mycorrhizal consortium with the organic fertilizer. Application of fertilizers did not reduce AMF colonization in the root system, which was higher by 20% in the inoculated treatments.
