The use of growing doses of NPK in different localizations in apple orchard
1990
Lipecki, J.
Apple trees cv. Jonathan budded on M4 rootstock and planted in 1970 were fertilized with increasing doses of NPK fertilizers in the years 1980-1989. Fertilizers were applied in three localizations in the orchard: on the whole area of the soil, on herbicide strips (about 1.5 m wide) in the tree rows and on grass strips (about 2 m wide) in the alleyways. The strongest growth was observed in the trees receiving high doses of NPK (N 150, P2O5 75 and K1O 300 kgha-1 annually) on herbicide strips. The highest yields and the highest productivity index were received when the same doses of fertilizers were used on the whole area of plots. Yield of the control trees (without fertilization during 10 years) was the lowest. Generaly, trees performed best after the use of high fertilizer doses on the whole area of experimental plots. The beginning of the experiment after uniform fertilization in the years 1970-1979 could affect the behaviour of the trees.
