Comparative Bio-efficacy of Various Insecticides against Thrips tabaci (Lindeman) on Onion
2012
Panse, Raju
Onion thrips (Thrips tabaci L.) is a serious pest of onion crop, which causes economical loss if the crop is infested at an early stage. The field experiments were conducted during 2009–10 and 2010–11 at Vegetable Research Farm, JNKVV, Jabalpur, MP to evaluate the bio-efficacy of six insecticides viz., Profenofos, Dimethoate, Quinolphos, Carbaryl, Deltamethrin, and Phosphomidan against onion thrips. Deltamethrin 2.8 EC, 0.01% (8.46 thrips/plant) was found to be the superior treatment in reducing the incidence of Thrips tabaci followed by Profenofos 50 EC, 0.2% (10.58 thrips/plant). The highest marketable yield (289.92 q/ha) was obtained in the plot treated with Deltamethrin followed by Profenofos (278.75 q/ha). The highest cost benefit ratio (1:42.44) and yield increase over control (67.53%) was obtained from Deltamethrin treated plot followed by Profenofos (1:33.64 and 61.08%).
