Determination of moisture content of whole kernel lentil by oven method

ASAE Standard S352.2 does not include information on measuring the moisture content of whole kernel lentil (Lens culinaris Medik). Samples of lentil seeds, at six moisture levels from 8.2% to 18.6%, were dried in a convection oven set at temperatures of 103 degrees C or 130 degrees C. The calculated moisture contents (w.b.) were compared to the official AACC Standard 44-15A. It was found that drying a 16 g sample of whole kernel lentil for a period of 20 h in the oven set at 130 degrees C yields a moisture content value closest to that of the AACC method.
