Occurrence of Different Protozoan Zooplanktons in River Ganga Near Kanpur During 2013–14

River Ganga is a major river of U.P. that passes through the Kanpur city, Domestic waste, Industrial effluents from surrounding areas are entering into the river bodies through different drains. Water samples from three different Ghats i.e. Gola Ghat, Maskar Ghat and Jajmau Sidhnath Ghat were collected and analysed for biological parameter of the river system. Qualitative analysis of protozoan population of the river indicates occurrence of 15 species during winter, summer monsoon and post monsoon season the year July 2013 to June 2014. The major class of protozoans, phytoflagellates, Rhizopodes, Zoomastigophorea, ciliate have been studied. The most common sp. which is present throughout the year are Euglena, Colpidium, Didinium, Halteria, Paramecium, Spirostomum, Stentor and Vorticella. The result shows that the water is much polluted and the presence of invertebrates affecting the water for domestic purposes.
