A workable approach for the mother who wants to nurse her sick or premature infant but must relactate to do so is outlined. The author is the mother of a baby who was two months old and had had surgery before she left the hospital. The advice focuses on establishing the mother/child relationship, expressing milk, understanding hormonal changes, coping with a diminishing milk supply, breastfeeding at home, and weaning from the bottle.
