Barley Growth, Water Use, and Mineral Composition as Influenced by Oxygen Exclusion from Specific Regions of the Root System
1965
Letey, J. | Richardson, W. F. | Valoras, N.
SynopsisFour treatments applied to the upper and lower halves of barley root systems consisted of A/A, N/A, A/N, and N/N where N represents very low oxygen (<1%) and A represents adequate oxygen in the order of upper/lower halves. Root weight in the upper half of A/A was similar to that in A/N and N/N was similar to N/A. In the lower half, the root weights of A/A and N/A were about equal and A/N equated N/N. Most water was removed from the half which had adequate oxygen. Top growth was highest under A/A and lowest under N/N.
