This paper describe investigation carried out toobtain information regarding nature and extent of heterosis for seed cotton yield and yield components in some inter varietal crosses of G. hirsutum L. involving line x tester analysis which comprised elite and diverse cultivars of 4 lines and 5 testers. High heterotic effects were observed to be high in case of seed cotton, lint yield, number of bolls per plant and boll weight. For most of the cases the heterotic effects noticed either in boll number or boll weight was also reflected in yield of seed cotton. The per se performance of parents did not reflect in heterotic performance of their cross combination. Low heterosis was observed for ginning percentage and 2.5% span length. The hybrids G. Cot20 x EC-132021, G. Cot-10 x GISV-264, G. Cot-10 x SA-1723 and Deviraj x EC-132021 exhibited significant positive heterosis for seed cotton yield and also manifested marked heterosis for lint yield per plant, number of bolls per plant, boll weight and ginning percentage. These hybrids were considered as superior and worth studying further.
