An assessment of the MARYBLYT computer program for the prediction of fire blight in Ontario, Canada
1993
Bonn, W.G. | Leuty, T.
The computerized model of Maryblyt™ developed by Paul Steiner and Gary Lightner at the University of Maryland has been field tested in Ontario, Canada for a number of growing seasons. As a result of successful testing, particularly in the severe fire blight year of 1991, the computer model program was installed in extension offices throughout fire blight sensitive apple- and pear-growing regions of the province for the 1992 growing season. The computer program was used intensively during the bloom period to warn growers of the possible risk of fire blight to their orchards. The results of field testing and the advantages/disadvantages of the program to the extension service are discussed.
