Nutritive value of pea pods

Extract: The nutritive value, proximate composition, amino acid composition, mineral composition and vitamin C content of pea pods was studied. Results indicated that the pea pods are rich sources of calcium, iron and vitamin C. The amino acid pattern showed a fairly good concentration of tryptophan, proline, phenylalanine, (glutamatic acid plus threonine), (serine plus aspartic acid), arginine, histidine, alanine and tyrosine but in general a poor source of protein.
