Heterosis Studies in Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) for Earliness, Growth and Fresh Fruit Yield
2014
Rohini, N. | Lakshmanan, V.
Six parental lines of chilli were crossed in all possible combinations including reciprocals (full diallel) to identify promising inbred lines and suitable cross combinations during 2013 to 2014 at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Periyakulam. The six parents along with their 30 F₁ hybrids were evaluated in a Randomized Block Design with three replications. Of the crosses evaluated the cross Pusa Jwala x K1 showed higher relative heterosis for plant height, while the highest heterobeltiosis was recorded by the cross, Pusa Jwala x PKM 1. Most of the hybrids showed negative heterobeltiosis for the trait, days to 50% flowering. For yield contributing characters like the fruit number per plant, fruit length, fruit girth fresh fruit weight and thousand seed weight, highest heterobeltiosis was observed by the crosses Pusa Jwala x PKM1, Pusa Jwala x K 1, PKM1 x LCA 625, K 1 x Arka Lohit and LCA 625 x K1.
