2015
Pouduval, M.
Research priorities for the state are needed to be projected towards development of region specific cultivars through selection from the existing wealth of cultivars as well as also evaluating high yielding cultivars and hybrids from other states under the agro-climatic situation of red and laterite zone. Thus the present study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of new high yielding cultivars under the agro-climatic situation of red and laterite zone. The present investigation was carried out at the Regional Research Station, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal during 2003-2010. Thirteen different cultivars collected from different centers of AICRP on cashew were evaluated during the period. The design of the experiment was randomized block design with three replications. The observations on growth and yield attributes were recorded. Canopy area was found to be highest with ‘T.No. 10/19’ followed by ‘H-320’, ‘H-255’ and ‘M-15/4’. ‘H-367’, ‘H-255’ and ‘M-15/4’ were the precocious flowering plants. Highest number of nuts/m2 was with the cultivar ‘H-255’. ‘H-303’ had maximum number of nuts per panicle. Nut weight was maximum with ‘NRCC-1’ (8.2 g) followed by ‘H-68’ (8 g) and ‘H-255’ (7.8 g). ‘H-255’ was the highest yielder followed by ‘H-303’ and ‘M-15/4’. Most of the cultivars had more than 28% shelling. ‘H-255’, ‘M-15/4’ and ‘H-303’ are recommended for the red and and laterite zone of West Bengal.
