Fat cells lipogenesis from dietary obese rats fed high fat or high carbohydrate diet. II. Glucose and oleate metabolism
1979
Louis, S.L. | Davis, G.
Dietary obese weanling rats were fed a high fat or a high carbohydrate diet of similar calculated digestible energy content for 4 to 8 weeks. The collagenase digestion technique was used to isolate fat cells. The lipid synthesis from oleate was greater than from glucose in the fat-fed obese rats. In both the lean rats fed a standard diet and the carbohydrate fed rats, the synthesis from glucose was higher than from oleate. Esterification of long chain fatty acid may represent an active pathway of lipid synthesis in fat-fed rats to compensate for the depressed de novo lipogenesis.
