Effect of Clipping and Nitrogen Fertilization on Forage and Grain Yields of Spring Oats
1960
Gardner, F. P. | Wiggans, S. C.
SynopsisDelayed or repeated clipping beyond the 4-leaf stage increased forage yield of two oat varieties. Single clippings at the 4-, 5-, and 7-leaf stage reduced grain yield by 9, 28, and 98%, respectively. Clipping retarded floral development and reduced lodging and test weight. Nitrogen fertilization did not compensate for the deleterious clipping effect.
