Genetic Divergence, Variability and Character Association for Yield Components of Blackgram (Vignamungo [L.] Hepper)
2014
Panigrahi, K. K. | Baisakh, B.
The present investigation was carried out on 14 selected superior genotypes of blackgram on the basis of their yield and yield contributing traits out of several hundreds of mutants and local genotypes. The 14 genotypes were evaluated to adjudge the superiority and potentiality for further breeding programme. Significant differences were observed for all the characters under study. PCV values were higher than GCV values. High heritability with high to moderate genetic advance as % mean was found in case of days to 50% flowering, days to maturity and plant height. Days to 50% flowering, pod/plant and 100 seed weight had positive direct effect on yield. Genetic diversity using Mahalanobis D-square (D²) techniques was studied for yield and yield contributing traits. Out of six clusters, Cluster III and cluster VI had high mean values for all the characters with moderate genetic distance. The maximum and minimum inter cluster distance was observed between cluster IV with VI and I with V respectively. Use of parents from cluster III and VI is expected to produce transgressive segregants.
