Effect of soil ph on the relationship between k concentration in the saturation extract and k saturation of soils1,2
1972
Németh, K. | GRIMME, H.
There is a close and significant correlation between K saturation of the inorganic CEC and the K concentration in the saturation extract of soils if their mineralogical composition is not too different. This was shown in a recent paper (Németh et al., 1970). In that investigation, however only soils with pH values between 5.1 and 7.4 [with most values between 6.0 and 7.0] were included. As under acid conditions, secondary chlorite with selectivity properties ranging towards K and different from those of illite and expanded illite may develop (10, 11) and exchangeable Al content of the soil (Pionke and Corey, 1967) and Al concentration in the soil solution may increase substantially (13), different regressions between K saturation of inorganic CEC and K concentration would be expected at different pH values. The objective of this investigation was to find out a quantitative relationship between K saturation of inorganic CEC and K concentration in the saturation extract at different pH values.
