Appearance of new superunstable mutations in Drosophila melanogaster lines possessing original superinstability in the ocelliless locus
1991
Georgiev, P.G. | Elagin, V.A.
Associated mutagenesis in Drosophila melanogaster lines possessing superunstable mutants in the ocelliless locus was studied. A family of the latter was obtained as a result of the crossing between females from lines with a mobile Stalker (M-cytotype) and males from the pi(2)-line (P-cytotype). Males with superunstable oc-mutations were then crossed with females possessing linked X-chromosomes which maintained P-M hybrid dysgenesis. In addition to frequent mutational transitions in the ocelliless locus active mutagenesis with respect to other loci occurred in all lines. In this case more than 10% of the new mutations in the X-chromosome were found to be superunstable. A more detailed description of superunstable mutations in white, pseudoscute, and a number of other loci is presented.
