The present study was undertaken to identify the diagnostic polypeptides of Echinococcus granulosus by enzyme-linked immunoelectrotransfer blot assay (EITB). Three different antigens of E. granulosus viz., somatic, excretory secretory (E/S) and faecal supernatant (F/S) antigens were used to identify the immune-reactive polypeptides. Results of EITB revealed immune-reactive polypeptides of 84, 66, 45 and 18 kDa with somatic antigen of E. granulosus, using known positive serum. The E/S antigen showed six polypeptides of 98, 84, 66, 45, 34 and 24 kDa on blots. Further, a total of four polypeptides of size 66, 45, 34 and 18 kDa were identified on blots with F/S antigen. The immune-reactive polypeptides of 66 and 45 kDa were found to be common among the three antigens of diagnostic importance for E. granulosus and could be explored for immunodiagnosis of E. granulosus infection in dogs.
