However, their current exploitation is done without taking into account stock renewal. The objective of this study was to determine the reproductive strategies of four species of the most abundant Marcusenius observed in the Malebo pool. All four species of Marcusenius collected have well developed left gonads with large oocytes of almost the same size that can be expelled in a single spawning. These fishes practice a migratory strategy in flooded sites for spawning and fry holding at the beginning of the rainy season. This period coincides with flooding and a slight variation of environmental parameters in the spawning grounds. Fecundity is highest towards the end of the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season, between August and September. Gonad maturity in females begins in June and July. By the end of September and October, almost all species are mature and by November/December most are post-spawning.
