Research of Abkhazian glacier retreat in the context of ongoing climate change using satellite remote sensing.
2023
Of all the environmental systems on the Earth, glaciers are the most vulnerable to the impacts of ongoing climate change, the degradation of which clearly reflects the rate of climate change. The only way to scientifically study the impact of modern climate change on glaciers is to use high-resolution satellite remote sensing (SRS) since this technology allows you to simultaneously study the state of glaciers over large areas. Due to the absence of a local glaciological school and taking into account the current political situation, the study of the current state of the glaciers in the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia is even more critical through SRS. Studying the retreat of Abkhazian glaciers using high-resolution TDS is the main goal of this work. In addition to the retreat of a large glacier, the date of the complete melting of the glacier is determined within a certain climatic scenario. Tab. 1, Fig. 3, Ref. 16.
