Appropriate seed conservation technique is vital in maintaining low seed moisture content and prolonging the seed viability and vigor under ambient condition. The three factorial study was conducted in the Seed Science and Technology (SSTL) of the Institute of Crop Science-College of Agriculture and Food Science (ICropsS-CAFS), University of the Philippine Los Baos (UPLB), Pili Drive, UPLB for the seedling emergence tests. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of an ambient seed conservation technique that will prolong the viability and vigor soybean seeds by using a combination of oxygen absorber, drying heads, and sealed airtight containers for a duration of 12 months. Results showed that seeds stored in glass bottles significantly performed better for all the parameters gathered regardless of storage agents used compared to seeds stored in PET bottles. Soybean seeds stored with a combination of oxygen absorber and drying beads resulted in higher germination index, seedling emergence (%), seedling dry weight (g) and comparable to seeds stored with oxygen absorber only. It also resulted in significantly lower seed moisture content (%) compared to seeds stored with oxygen absorber only. Seeds with oxygen absorber had significantly higher germination at first count (%) as compared to control but comparable to seeds stored with combination of oxygen absorber and drying beads. Thus, glass bottle with oxygen absorber is the effective seed conservation technique in prolonging the viability and vigor of soybean seeds that provided the highest germination, germination at first count, germination index, seedling emergence and seedling dry weight while keeping storage costs and logistics to a manageable level.
