Avaliando a diversidade funcional de insetos aquáticos em riachos sob a influência de diferentes usos do solo. | Assessing functional diversity of aquatic insects in streams under the influence of different land use.

The land use is a stressor factor that can change the spatial environmental heterogeneity in streams and this can influence the different ecological attributes of communities. Thus, we tested the hypothesis that the diversity of taxa and functional diversity of aquatic insect communities differ between rural and urban streams. Three facets of functional diversity (functional richness, functional evenness and functional dispersion) were used. In rural streams, the higher structural complexity contributed to the occurrence of sensitive taxa (specialists) that, in general, do not share the categories of functional traits each other, a fact that resulted in high taxonomic and functional diversity in these streams. In contrast, the processes of urbanization and more frequently impacts altered most drastically the abiotic limnological variables and led to a simplification of habitats in urban streams, facilitating the predominance of tolerant taxa (generalists), which in turn tend to share a larger number of traits, reducing the taxonomic and functional diversity at these sites. Therefore, to evaluate the functional diversity of aquatic insects under the influence of different land use is essential for a better understanding of the functioning of this community in face of increasingly larger and more frequent changes which are subject lotic ecosystems.

O uso do solo é um fator estressor que pode alterar a heterogeneidade ambiental espacial em riachos e esta pode influenciar os diferentes atributos ecológicos das comunidades. Assim, avaliou-se a hipótese de que a diversidade de táxons e a diversidade funcional das comunidades de insetos aquáticos diferem entre riachos rurais e urbanos. Foram utilizadas três facetas da diversidade funcional (riqueza funcional, equitabilidade funcional e dispersão funcional). Nos riachos rurais, a maior complexidade estrutural contribuiu para a ocorrência de táxons sensíveis (especialistas) que, na sua maioria, não compartilham as categorias de traços funcionais entre si, o que culminou em uma maior diversidade taxonômica e funcional nesses riachos. Contrariamente, os processos de urbanização e os impactos com maior frequência alteraram de forma mais drástica as variáveis limnológicas abióticas e ocasionaram uma simplificação dos habitats nos riachos urbanos, favorecendo o predomínio de táxons tolerantes (generalistas), que por sua vez tendem a compartilhar uma maior quantidade de traços, reduzindo a diversidade taxonômica e funcional nesses locais. Desta forma, avaliar a diversidade funcional de insetos aquáticos sob a influência de diferentes usos do solo é essencial para um melhor entendimento do funcionamento desta comunidade frente às mudanças cada vez maiores e mais frequentes a que estão sujeitos os ecossistemas lóticos.
