ESTRUCTURA DE LA COMUNIDAD DE PECES EN LA LAGUNA COSTERA DE NAVACHISTE, SINALOA, MÉXICO

"La laguna costera de Navachiste, Sinaloa, México, fue decretada en 2008 sitio RAMSAR y a pesar de su importancia ecológica, son pocos los estudios existentes sobre la comunidad de peces y nulos los que evalúan el papel de la laguna en el desarrollo de los ciclos de vida de estas especies. Por ello, el objetivo del presente estudio fue caracterizar la estructura de la comunidad de peces en esta laguna, así como identificar su importancia como área de crianza y reproducción. Se llevaron a cabo cuatro campañas de muestreos de manera estacional (2016-2017), utilizando embarcaciones menores y para la recolecta de las muestras se utilizaron tres artes de pesca: chinchorro de línea, atarraya y red de arrastre. Los peces recolectados se identificaron taxonómicamente y se estableció su afinidad biogeográfica. Se caracterizó físicamente el ecosistema tomando como referencia las variables de temperatura superficial del mar y salinidad. Se determinaron los índices ecológicos de abundancia, biomasa, riqueza específica, diversidad de Margalef, diversidad de Shannon-Weaver, equidad y la dominancia con el índice de valor biológico. Así mismo, se definió sí la laguna es usada como área de crianza y reproducción, identificando los organismos juveniles y adultos, utilizando la talla de primera madurez y el periodo reproductivo de las especies. Se identificaron 95 especies, con una amplia distribución, pertenecientes a la provincia biogeográfica del Pacífico Oriental Tropical (POT). La riqueza de especies y diversidad aumentaron durante el verano, presentando una equidad alta. Las especies dominantes fueron Mojarra aleta amarilla (Diapterus brevirostris), la Mojarra manchita (Eucinostomus dowii), Ronco brillante (Haemulopsis nitidus) y Raya redonda común (Urolophus halleri). La laguna presentó mayor abundancia de organismos juveniles y/o inmaduros, encontrándose mayor presencia en otoño e invierno, con lo que se establece como una zona importante de crianza. Durante el verano se presentó el mayor porcentaje de adultos, pero pocos con estadio de madurez avanzada, por lo que todas las especies de peces presentes en la laguna, usan la misma con fines de crianza, pero no de reproducción. Por lo anterior se concluye que la laguna costera de Navachiste, Sinaloa, es un área de gran importancia para los ciclos biológicos de las especies de peces aquí estudiados."

"The coastal lagoon of Navachiste, Sinaloa, México, was decreed RAMSAR site in 2008, despite their ecology importance, there are few studies regarding the community of fish and none that evaluate the role of the lagoon in the development of their entire life-cycles. Therefore, this study aims to characterize the structure of the fish community in this lagoon, as well as to recognize its importance as a breeding and reproduction area. Four sampling campaigns were conducted seasonally (2016-2017); using small boats and employing three different fishing gears, for the collection of samples: gillnet, castnet and trawlnet. The collected fishes were identified taxonomically and their biogeographic affinity was established. The ecosystem was physically qualified on behalf of sea surface temperature and salinity rates. In addition to determining the ecological indices of abundances, biomass, species richness, Margalef diversity, Shannon diversity, equitability and dominance through the biological value index (BVI). Furthermore, it was defined if the lagoon is used as a breeding and reproduction area, due to the identification of young and adult organisms with the size first maturity and the reproductive period of the species is defined. A total 95 species were identified, which mostly had a wide distribution in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP). Species richness and diversity were higher during the summer, with a high equity. The dominant species were Shortnose mojarra (Diapterus brevirostris), Pacific spotfin mojarra (Eucinostomus dowii), Silver grunt (Haemulopsis nitidus) and Round stingray (Urolophus halleri). The coastal lagoon presented a greater abundance of young and/or immature organisms, founding more presence in autumn and winter, which establishes it as an important nursery area. During the summer the highest percentage of adults appears, however the amount of matures organisms were low, so, all species of fish present in the lagoon are used for breeding purposes, but not for reproductive. All in all, it is concluded that the coastal lagoon of Navachiste, Sinaloa, is an area of great importance for the biological cycles of the fish species studied here."
