Degradación física y química de un Haplustol típico bajo distintos sistemas de manejo de suelo | Physical and chemical degradation of a typic Haplustoll under different management systems

En la provincia de Tucumán se produjo un fuerte proceso de expansión de la frontera agropecuaria sobre áreas secas subhúmedas y semiáridas, lo que condujo a la degradación física, química y biológica de los suelos. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue comparar, en una región seca subhúmeda, la influencia de diferentes sistemas de manejo en un Haplustol típico sobre el nivel de degradación física y química del mismo y su relación con propiedades hidráulicas que tienen importancia en el almacenaje de agua. En un ensayo de manejo de 20 años de antigüedad se compararon situaciones bajo monocultivo de soja con siembra directa (SD) y con laboreo convencional (LC); bajo pastura de gramíneas sin pastoreo directo (P) y bajo monte natural (MN). Las siguientes propiedades fueron evaluadas: carbono orgánico (CO), fósforo extractable (Pe), capacidad de intercambio catiónico (CIC), pH, densidad aparente (DA), estabilidad estructural (EE), conductividad hidráulica (Ksat), infiltración básica (Ibas), y poros mayores a 0,25 mm(macroporosidad). Hubo diferencias significativas en el carbono orgánico y la capacidad de intercambio catiónico entre los tratamientos SD y P con respecto a LC. Los contenidos de fósforo extractable fueron 28, 16 y 14 % para SD, P y LC, respectivamente, comparados con MN. El pH del suelo no fue afectado significativamente por los sistemas de labranza. La estabilidad estructural fue la propiedad más sensible al manejo del suelo, siguiendo una secuencia decreciente desde el monte natural hasta el laboreo convencional, que representa el máximo nivel de degradación física entre las situaciones estudiadas. La estabilidad estructural estuvo fuertemente asociada al carbono orgánico en todas las situaciones, excepto en el suelo bajo pastura donde el efecto físico de las raíces fue más importante que el contenido de materia orgánica del suelo. La infiltración básica en los suelos con SD y P fue significativamente mayor que en LC. De todos modos, la infiltración del suelo virgen de MN fue significativamente mayor que en las otras tres situaciones Un comportamiento similar tuvieron los suelos con respecto a la conductividad hidráulica. La macroporosidad no difirió entre tratamientos, pero también fue significativamente más alta en el monte natural virgen. La falta de recuperación de estos tres parámetros con respecto al monte natural indica el bajo nivel de recuperación de los suelos estudiados. Sin embargo, debido a la naturaleza seca subhúmeda y semiárida de la región, las diferencias en la infiltración entre los sistemas conservacionistas y convencionales producen un aumento en el almacenaje de agua, que es una variable vital para el desarrollo adecuado de los cultivos.

In the province of Tucumán there was a great process of expansion of the farming borders to dry sub humid and semi-arid areas. This process led to the physical, chemical and biological degradation of the soils. The objective of this work was to determine the long term effects of different tillage systems on physical and chemical degradation of a Typic Haplustoll and its relationship with hydraulic properties related to water storage. In a tillage experiment established 20 years ago soybean under no till and conventional tillage, gramineous pastures (P) and natural forest (MN), the following properties were studied: organic carbon (CO), extractable phosphorous (Pe), cationic exchange capacity (CIC), pH, bulk density (DA), structural stability (EE), hydraulic conductivity (Ksat), basic infiltration (Ibas) and pores greater than 0,25 mm. There were significative differences in CO and CIC between LC and treatments P and SD, but also between P and SD with MN. Pe contents were 28, 16 and 14 % for SD, P and LC respectively in relation to MN. Soil pH was not affected by the different tillage systems. The structural stability was the property that appeared to be more sensitive to the soil tillage in a decreasing sequence from the natural forest to the conventional tillage, that represents the greatest level of physical degradation among the studied situations. This variable was strongly associated to the organic carbon except in the soil pasture, where the physical effect of the roots was much more important that the soil organic matter content. The basic infiltration in soils with no till and pastures was significantly higher than in conventional tillage even though in the three systems it was inferior to the values of the natural forest. Basic infiltration, hydraulic conductivity and macroporosity showed the low level of recuperation of the studied soils. However, due to the subhumid dry and semi- arid nature of the region, the difference in the values of infiltration between the soils with no till and pastures in relation to conventional tillage showed that the implementation of conservationist practices can increase the water storage that is a key variable to the appropriate crop development.
