Removal of the cationic dyes Methylene blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RhB) by Vitellaria paradoxa Activated Carbon (VPAC) was studied as a new low-cost adsorbent. FTIR characterization revealed various functional groups and SEM showed surface morphology. The effects of operating parameters such as contact time, adsorbent dose, initial dye concentration, pH, particle sizes were investigated for the removal of MB and RhB dye using VPAC. The maximum adsorption of MB and RhB dye onto VPAC was at pH of 6 contact time of 60min and pH of 7 contact of time 80min respectively. The adsorption equilibrium data were tested by applying the Langmuir, Freundlich,Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevic. It is observed that the Langmuir isotherm model fitted better than the other isotherm models with KL = -0.1047 L/mg, RL= 9.139 and R2 = 0.9696 for MB while KL = -0.0518L/mg, RL= 1.0373 and R2 = 0.9688 for RhB indicating monolayer adsorption at all studied parameters.
