Tasas de sedimentación y características de sedimentos de fondo en tres embalses de Antioquia, Colombia | Sedimentation rates and characteristics of bottom sediments in three reservoirs of Antioquia, Colombia

RESUMEN: La sedimentología de tres embalses de Empresas Públicas de Medellín, localizados en Antioquia, Colombia, mostró tasas de sedimentación promedias elevadas. En Riogrande II de 2.25 m año–1, en La Fe de 0.14 m año–1 y en Porce II del orden de 7.6 m año–1. En dichos embalses existen diferencias en la acumulación de sedimentos, los limos, se concentran en las zonas estancadas y más profundas mientras que las arenas en las entradas de los drenajes a los embalses. Existe una marcada tendencia estacional de la sedimentación con valores máximos durante los meses de lluvias y se observan diferencias composicionales y granulométricas espaciotemporales. Una simulación de la evolución sedimentaria de estos tres embalses indica su posible desaparición como depósito de agua de continuar los aportes de sedimentos desde los tributarios, siendo más drástica en Porce II.

ABSTRACT: The sedimentology of three reservoirs of Empresas Públicas de Medellín, located in Antioquia, Colombia, showed high average sedimentation rates. In Riogrande II of 2.25 m year–1, in La Fe of 0.14 m year–1 and in Porce II of the order of 7.6 m year–1. In these reservoirs there are differences in the accumulation of sediments, the silts are concentrated in the stagnant and deeper areas while the sands in the inlets of the drainages to the reservoirs. There is a marked seasonal tendency of sedimentation with maximum values during the rainy months and there are spatio-temporal compositional and granulometric differences. A simulation of the sedimentary evolution of these three reservoirs indicates their possible disappearance as a deposit of water to continue the contributions of sediments from the tributaries, being more drastic in Porce II.
