Efecto de la subnutrición peri-implantacional sobre las series blanca y plaquetaria de vacas y terneros de dos razas bovinas | Peri-implantational undernutrition effect on white and platelet haematological parameters of cows and calves of two cattle breeds

Los sistemas de producción de vacuno de carne son cada vez más extensivos con el objetivo de reducir costes en la alimentación, esto hace que los animales puedan sufrir periodos de subnutrición en alguna fase de su ciclo productivo. Una restricción alimentaria durante el inicio de la gestación puede afectar a la implantación del embrión y a su posterior programación metabólica fetal (Reyes y Fernández, 2015), así como a los perfiles hematológicos de los animales. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto que tiene la subnutrición durante el primer tercio de gestación sobre los parámetros de las series blanca y plaquetaria de vacas al inicio y final de gestación y de terneros recién nacidos de las razas Parda de Montaña (PA) y Pirenaica (PI).

Undernourished períods can occur in extensive beef cattle farming systems. A poor nutríent diet during the peri-implantalion period could affect the correct foetal development. Analogously, a deficient die! can also affect dam or calf haematological profiles. The aim of this study was to analyse the effects of peri-implantational undernutrition on white blood cell and platelet profiles in dams and calves of two beef breeds. Seventy-four Parda de Montaña (PA) and 40 Pirenaica (PI) cows were inseminated and allocated to a control (CONTROL) ar nutrient-restricted (SUBNUT) group, which were fed al 100 ar 65% of lheir estimated energy requirements during the first 82 days of pregnancy. Counts of leukocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets and mean platelet volume were determined on day 19 post inseminalion and one month befare parturilion in dams, and on the first days of lile in calves. In the peri-implantation period Pirenaica breed showed lower values of leukocyte, lymphocyte and platelet counts than PA, and Pl-SUBNUT had lower values of granulocytes than PI-CONTROL. All differences between groups disappeared one month befare parturition and also in calves, suggesling that undernutrilion had haematological effects in PI only during the treatment period.
