Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important legume crop in Sri Lanka due to its diverse uses in oil extraction and food and confectionary production. Peanut stem rot, caused by Agroathelia rolfsii (syn. Sclerotium rolfsi) Sacc., Redhead and Mullineux is an economically important disease in Sri Lanka. This study aimed to sereen resistance of advanced peanut breeding lines to the stem rot disease and evaluate selected fungicides, alternative chemicals and Trichoderma-based biological control agents to control the stem rot disease. Thirty peanut advanced breeding lines were screened for resistance to stem rot disease under field conditions, and the results indicated that only one line (ICGV-1) was resistant. Eight advanced peanut breeding lines showed moderate resistance namely, ANKGSR-1, ANKGN-4, ANKGL-2019 1, ANKGL-20192, LANKA JAMBO, TISSA X ICVGV - 3487, ICGV - 2742, and ICGV- 3487. The field fungicide and chemical screening experiment showed that at 500 ppm concentration, the lowest disease incidences were observed for Thiophanate methyl 50% WP and Na2CO3: (washing soda) while the lowest disease incidences were observed for Thiophanate methyl 50% WP, Na2CO3 (washing soda) and NaHCO3; (baking soda) at 1000 ppm concentration. These results show the antifungal abilities of washing soda and baking soda to control A. rolfsii which are comparable to Thiophanate methyl 50% WP fungicide. n the in vitro experiment., the highest percent radial growth inhibition was observed for Bio Vaccine Trichoderma product, while in the field experiment, Bio Vaccine Trichoderma and Green light Trichoderna products were effective as Thiophanate methyl s0% WP in controlling stem rot disease as indicated by low disease incidence.
