Blue oat mite (Penthaleus major (Duges)) control trials in southern Queensland

In two field tests in Queensland in winter 1969, eight acaricides were applied as sprays for the control of Penthaleus major (Duges) on oats. Effective control was achieved with azinphos-ethyl, methidathion and diazinon at 35, 35 and 70 g/ha, respectively, the numbers of mites/10 tillers one and (in brackets) 14 days after treatment averaging 0.83 (5.83), 0 (0.67) and 0.5 (2.5), respectively, as compared with 43.7, 52.7 and 70.8 before treatment.
