Seleção de cana energia | Selection of cane energy

A cana-de-açúcar é uma das culturas mais importantes para a produção de açúcar e etanol e, recentemente, para a produção de biomassa. Como forma de explorar ainda mais o potencial energético da cultura, o programa de melhoramento genético da Rede Interuniversitária para o Desenvolvimento do Setor Sucroenergético (RIDESA) vem realizando novas hibridações envolvendo diferentes espécies do complexo Saccharum. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido em três partes, de acordo com as fases de seleção do programa de melhoramento da cana-de-açúcar da Universidade Federal de Viçosa (PMGCA/UFV). Na primeira objetivou-se identificar famílias superiores para a seleção visando a obtenção de clones de cana energia. Para isso foram utilizadas duas populações, uma com 15 famílias de meio-irmãos (FMI) e outra com 50 famílias de irmãos completos (FIC). Foi possível identificar quatro grupos distintos entre os clones selecionados nas FIC. A segunda parte objetivou caracterizar uma população constituída por 124 clones de cana energia com relação aos caracteres componentes da produção e de qualidade da fibra, visando identificar clones superiores para obtenção de cultivares de cana energia. Foi possível identificar clones com elevada tonelada de cana por hectare (TCH) e tonelada de fibra por hectare (TFH). Na terceira parte, foi avaliado o teor dos componentes químicos da fibra (celulose, hemicelulose e lignina) em três segmentos do colmo (terço superior, terço médio e terço inferior) e no colmo inteiro. A correlação entre teor de fibra no colmo inteiro e nas três partes do mesmo foi elevada (> 0,7) sendo superior comparada com a baixa correlação obtida (0,12 a 0,46) entre os teores de celulose, hemicelulose e lignina na cana inteira e nos três segmentos do colmo.

Sugarcane is one of the most important crops for production of sugar and ethanol, and recently, for production of biomass. As a way to explore further the energy potential of sugarcane, the Brazilian Interuniversity Network for the Development of Sugarcane Industry (RIDESA) has been carrying out new hybridizations involving different species of Saccharum complex. This study was conducted in three parts. The first purpose was to identify superior parents for selection to obtain energy cane clones. For this, we used two populations, one with 15 half-sibs families (FMI) and the other with 50 full-sib families (FIC). It was possible to identify four distinct groups among clones selected in the FIC, and the group of clones that showed high average for fiber and sucrose stood out. The second part represents the selection of clones (T2) and aimed at characterizing of a population consisting of 124 clones sugarcane components with respect to the character and quality of the production of biomass in order to identify clones to obtain superior varieties cane energy. It was possible to identify clones (UFV09251 and UFV09911) with high values for TCH (tons of cane per hectare) and TFH (tons of fiber per hectare). In the third chapter it were studied the chemical fiber components (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) into three segments of the stalk (superior, middle and inferior segment) and in the whole stalk. The correlation between fiber content in the entire stalk and the three segments was high (> 0.7). It was superior when is compare with the correlation (0.12 to 0.46) between the entire stalk and the three segments for cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin content.
