Akustisk mengdemåling av sei, kysttorsk ungsild: Finnmark – Møre hausten 2006 | Acoustic abundance of saithe, coastal cod and juvenile herring: Finnmark – Møre Autumn 2006

An acoustic survey to obtain indices of abundance and estimates of length and weight at age of saithe and coastal cod north of 62º north has been carried out annually in October-November, since 1985 for saithe and since 1995 for coastal cod. In 2003 the former saithe survey, the coastal survey and the main parts of the 0-group herring and sprat survey in the fjords north of Bodø were combined to one investigation. The main results in 2006 were: • the temperature was in all areas below the 2005 level and close to the 1997-2005 average • total echo abundance of saithe decreased by about 10 % compared to 2005 and is the third lowest in the time series since 1997, at about the same level as in 2002-2003 and almost 50 % below the 1998 level • 4 year old saithe (2002 year class) was most abundant and the index is above the average for 1992-2005 • the indices of 4, 5 and 6 year old saithe are much lower than in 2005 and less than half of the average for 1992-2005 • the indices for 7 year old and older saithe are higher than in previous years and above the 1992-2005 average • length and weight at age are about as in previous years • Compared with 2005, the number of coastal cod increased for all ages in the area from Lofoten and further north. In the area south of Lofoten the abundance decreased for ages 1-5. • There is no sign of improved recruitment. • Length and weight at age are higher than average for most age groups • The spawning stock biomass increased compared to 2005 as a result of increased numbers and proportion mature at age • It must be emphasized that the stock of coastal cod is for the time being at such a low level that the uncertainty in acoustic abundance estimation is relatively high. Norsk: Eit akustisk tokt med sikte på å framskaffa indeksar for talet på fisk og data over lengde og vekt av kvar aldersgruppe av sei og kysttorsk nord for 62º nord er gjennomført årleg i oktober-november, sidan 1985 for sei og sidan 1995 for kysttorsk. I 2003 vart det tidlegare seitoktet, kysttoktet og dei viktigaste delane av 0-gruppe sild og brislingtoktet på fjordane nord for Bodø slegne saman til ei undersøking. Resultata for 2006 viser: • temperaturen var i alle områda under 2005-nivået og om lag lik snittet for 1997-2005 • registrert ekkomengde av sei gjekk ned med vel 10 % i høve til 2005 og er den tredje lågaste i tidsserien sidan 1997, omlag på same nivå som i 2002-2003 og nesten 50 % under 1998 nivå • 4 år gamal sei (2002 årsklassen) var mest talrik og indeksen er over snittet for 1992-2005 • indeksane for 3,5 og 6 år gamal sei er mykje lågare enn i 2005 og knapt det halve av gjennomsnittet for 1992-2005 • indeksen for 7 år gamal og eldre sei er litt høgare enn i dei føregåande åra og over snittet for 1992-2005 • lengde og vekt ved alder er om lag som i føregåande år • det var ein oppgang i kysttorsk-indeksane for alle aldersgrupper i områda frå og med Lofoten og nordover, og ein nedgang i områda sør for Lofoten for fisk yngre enn 6 år samanlikna med 2005 • det er ingen teikn på betre rekruttering • for dei fleste aldersgruppene er både lengde og vekt noko høgare enn gjennomsnittet for dei føregåande åra • den akustiske gytebestandsindeksen auka i høve til 2005 som ein følje av auka tal og del modne • det må understrekast at bestanden av kysttorsk for tida er så låg at uvissa i utrekningane er etter måten høg
