Avaliação genética de características morfofuncionais do Burro de Miranda

O Burro de Miranda é uma das duas raças asininas autóctones portuguesas, tendo um enorme valor cultural e representa um património genético nacional. A criação da Associação para o Estudo e Proteção do Gado Asinino aumentou o interesse pela preservação desta raça. O objetivo deste estudo é realizar a estimativa de parâmetros genéticos e a avaliação genética para as características morfofuncionais do Burro de Miranda: Altura ao Garrote (AltG), Andamentos (An), Cabeça e Pescoço (CP), Conjunto de Formas (CF), Espádua e Garrote (EG), Garupa (Ga), Membros (Me), Pelagem (Pe), Pontuação Total (PT) e Tronco (Tr). Utilizaram-se 5685 registos genealógicos e entre 825 e 863 dados morfofuncionais de Burros de Miranda nascidos entre 1982 e 2021 num total de 224 criadores. As estimativas dos parâmetros genéticos foram obtidas por máxima verosimilhança restrita, através do BLUP – Modelo Animal, em análises univariadas com o programa MTDFREML. O modelo animal utilizado incluiu os efeitos fixos do criador de origem, do ano de nascimento, do género, efeito linear e quadrático da idade à classificação e efeito linear da consanguinidade individual e, como efeitos aleatórios, o valor genético direto e o erro residual. Foram estimadas as tendências genéticas da AltG, An, CP, CF, Pe, PT e Tr de um total de 1285 Burros de Miranda, por regressão do valor genético de cada característica no ano de nascimento. As estimativas das heritabilidades variaram entre 0.000 e 0.665 (pontos ou cm) e de um modo geral as tendências genéticas para os caracteres avaliados foram positivas, mas muito reduzidas (entre 0.0003 pontos/ano nos An e 0.0034 cm/ano na AltG). Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho permitem disponibilizar mais informações aos criadores de Burros de Miranda sobre os seus animais, facilitando assim a escolha dos futuros reprodutores e agilizando a seleção para determinadas características.

Miranda's donkey is one of the two autochthonous Portuguese asinine breeds, with a vast cultural value and national genetic heritage. Following the creation of the Association for the Study and Protection of Asinine Livestock, the interest in the conservation of this breed increased steadily. The aim of this study is to perform the estimation of genetic parameters and genetic evaluation for the morphofunctional characteristics of the Miranda Asinine Breed: Height at Withers (AltG), Gaits (An), Head and Neck (CP), Overall Forms (CF), Shoulder and Withers (EG), Croup (Ga), Limbs (Me), Coat (Pe), Total Score (PT) and Trunk (Tr). A total of 5685 genealogical data and between 825 and 863 morphofunctional data of Miranda Donkeys born between 1982 and 2021 were used, for a total of 224 breeders. The genetic parameters estimates were obtained by restricted maximum likelihood, through BLUP – Animal Model, in univariate analyses with the MTDFREML program. The animal model used included the fixed effects of origin breeder, year of birth, gender, linear and quadratic effect of age to classification and linear effect of individual inbreeding and, as random effects, direct genetic value, and the residual error. The genetic trends of the AltG, An, CP, CF, Pe, PT and Tr of a total of 1285 Miranda donkeys were estimated by univariate regression of the breeding value of each trait at the year of birth. Heritability estimates ranged between 0.000 and 0.665 (points or cm), and in general, the genetic tendencies for the evaluated traits were positive, but very small (between 0.0003 points/year in An and 0.0034 cm/year in AltG). The results obtained with this work allows breeders of the Miranda Donkey access to more information about these animals, facilitating the choice of future breeders and speeding up selection for certain characteristics.
