Crescimento vegetativo, resistência estomática, eficiência fotossintética e rendimento do fruto da melancieira em diferentes níveis de água = Vegetative growth, stomatal resistance, photosynthetic efficiency and yield of watermelon plants under different water levels

Objetivou-se avaliar diferentes regimes hídricos sobre o comportamentomorfofisiológico e o rendimento da melancieira em condições de campo no semiárido paraibano. O experimento foi realizado no Setor Experimental da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba, localizado em Catolé do Rocha (PB). Utilizou-se a cultivar Crimson Sweet espaçada de2,2 m x 0,6 m, no delineamento em blocos ao acaso com quatro tratamentos [40, 70, 100 e 130% da evapotranspiração de referência (mm dia-1)] e oito repetições. As máximas expressões de crescimento foram verificadas na lâmina de água de 204 mm, com área foliar de 1,831 m2, índice de área foliar de 1,35 m2 m-2 e taxa de crescimento de 0,04 m2 dia-1. A resistência estomática foi maior à tarde, independentemente da lâmina de água. As fluorescências inicial, máxima e variável e a eficiência quântica do fotossistema II reduziram abruptamente no maior nível de irrigação. O máximo rendimento de fruto (52.400 kg ha-1) foi obtido na lâmina de 266 mm ciclo-1, com eficiência no uso da água de 19,69 kg m-3. Nas condições estudadas, durante o manejo da irrigação da melancieira, pode-se adotar entre 70-100% da ETo como estimativa para o cálculo da lâmina de irrigação.<br><br>It was proposed to evaluate various hydric schemes on the morphophysiological behavior and performance of watermelon plants at field conditions in the semiarid region of Paraíba state (Brazil). The experiment was carried in the State University of Paraíba. The cultivar Crimson Sweet was used, and plants were spaced 2.2 m x 0.6 m; the experiment was designed in randomized blocks with four treatments [40, 70, 100 and 130% of the reference evapotranspiration value (mm day-1)] and eight replications. The maximum expressions of growth were verified for the irrigation level of 204 mm, with leaf area of 1.831 m2, leaf area index of 1.35 m2 m-2 and growth rate of 0.04 m2 day-1. The stomatal resistance was greater during the afternoon, regardless of irrigation level. The initial, maximum and changing fluorescences and the quantum efficiency of photosystem IIreduced abruptly for the highest level of irrigation. The maximum fruit yield (52,400 kg ha-1) was obtained for the irrigation level of 266 mm-1 cycle-1; the water use efficiency verified was 19.69 kg m-3. During the irrigation management for the watermelon plant, it is possible to adopt values between 70-100% for estimating the ETo due to calculate the culture irrigation level.
