A rapid pesticide screening method for beer using liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry

We developed a rapid pesticide screening method for beer using liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The characteristics of this method are high-speed analysis using a 30-mm length high-performance liquid chromatography column and rapid pesticide identification using in-house product ion database matching. With this new rapid screening method, we detected 144 out of 152 pesticides (95% success rate) in beer spiked with pesticides at a concentration of 1 μg/mL. This method provides an easy, rapid, and effective tool for the identification of pesticides intentionally added to beer.
