Estimativa e mapeamento da radiação solar incidente em superfícies com topografia heterogênea na zona de produção vitivinícola Serra Gaúcha | Estimation and mapping of solar radiation on surfaces with heterogeneous topography in the serra gaucha wine production zone

A radiação solar exerce papel determinante nos processos de troca de energia entre a atmosfera e a superfície terrestre e afeta todos os processos físicos, químicos e biológicos nos ecossistemas. Em áreas com topografia heterogênea a radiação incidente varia em função da altitude, da declividade e da orientação da superfície, bem como da posição da mesma em relação a superfícies vizinhas. Para estimar a radiação solar nessas condições, além da atenuação atmosférica, é necessário considerar a situação topográfica da superfície e sua interação com a radiação incidente. O objetivo geral deste estudo foi efetuar e avaliar a estimativa e o mapeamento da radiação solar incidente na zona de produção vitivinícola Serra Gaúcha, considerando simultaneamente a influência da atmosfera e da topografia. Foram utilizados dados de radiação solar global média decendial de 4 estações meteorológicas, um Modelo Digital de Elevação, receptores GPS e programas de Sistemas de Informação Geográfica (SIG). A atmosfera foi caracterizada pela fração difusa (Kd), estimada por meio de três relações empíricas a partir do índice de claridade (Kt), e pela transmitância direta, calculada por diferença e corrigida de três formas para o menor caminho óptico com base no ângulo zenital médio. A radiação incidente na superfície foi estimada para períodos decendiais, empregando o algoritmo Solar Analyst e os parâmetros atmosféricos acima citados. As estimativas foram verificadas com os registros das estações meteorológicas da área de estudo. O melhor desempenho foi obtido com Kd estimado pelo coeficiente linear da equação de Ångstrom, ajustado para a região, e transmitância direta corrigida pelo ângulo zenital médio excluindo as elevações do Sol inferiores a 10° no outono-inverno. O coeficiente de determinação entre os dados estimados e registrados foi de 0,8511, com uma subestimativa média de 4,59%. Os mapas estimados mostraram que o campo de radiação apresenta uma alta variabilidade espacial e temporal, em decorrência da topografia heterogênea. A irradiação global anual na área de estudo apresentou uma amplitude de 425 MJ.m-2 a 5.045 MJ.m-2. A variabilidade espacial foi menor na primavera e no verão e aumentou no outono e no inverno, com maiores variações observadas em encostas sul. A radiação direta foi a mais afetada pelas características topográficas da superfície, constituindo a maior determinante da variabilidade da radiação global estimada em superfícies com topografia heterogênea. A metodologia utilizada possibilitou estimar a radiação solar incidente com acurácia e com alta resolução espacial.

Solar radiation exerts major influence on energy exchange processes between atmosphere and Earth surface, and affects all the physical, chemical and biological processes in ecosystems. In areas with heterogeneous topography, incident radiation depends on elevation, slope, orientation, and position of the surface related to neighboring surfaces. Under such conditions, beside atmospheric attenuation, also surface topography and its effects on incident radiation must be taken into account to estimate solar radiation. The aim of this study was to estimate the solar radiation and to generate radiation maps of the Serra Gaúcha wine production zone, accounting simultaneously for the influence of atmosphere and topography. Long term 10-day average global solar radiation data measured at four meteorological stations, a Digital Elevation Model, GPS receivers and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software were used. Atmosphere was characterized by its diffuse fraction (Kd) and direct transmittance. Kd was estimated by three empirical relationships based on the clearness index (Kt). Direct transmittance was calculated by difference from Kd and corrected for the smallest optical path based on the mean zenith angle applied in three different ways. Incident radiation was estimated for decendial periods, using the Solar Analyst software and the above mentioned atmospheric parameters. Solar radiation estimates were validated with average data measured at meteorological stations within the study area. The best performance was obtained with Kd estimated by the linear coefficient of the Ångstrom equation fitted for the region, and direct transmittance corrected by the mean zenith angle excluding Sun elevations below 10° in autumn-winter. The determination coefficient between estimated and measured data was 0.8511, and an underestimation of 4.59% was found. The estimated maps showed that the radiation field has a high spatial and temporal variability due to heterogeneous topography. The annual global irradiation over the study area ranged from 425 MJ.m-2 to 5,045 MJ.m-2. The spatial variability was lower in spring and summer, and increased in autumn and winter, with larger variations observed in south facing slopes. The direct radiation was the component most affected by topography, constituting a major driver of the global radiation variability on surfaces with heterogeneous topography in Serra Gaúcha. The proposed methodology allowed estimates of incident solar radiation with high accuracy and high spatial resolution.
