Modelagem da relação entre a severidade da ferrugem-asiática e a produtividade da soja por meta-análise | Models of the relationship between soybean rust severity and crop yield by meta-analytical

A ferrugem-asiática, causada por Phakopsora pachyrhizi, é uma das mais devastadoras e economicamente importantes doenças da soja no Brasil e no mundo. Ensaios cooperativos vem sendo conduzidos pelo Consórcio Antiferrugem visando a avaliação comparativa da eficiência de fungicidas. Os dados obtidos nesses ensaios, em nove anos de experimentação, foram utilizados em uma meta-análise da relação entre a severidade da doença determinada no estádio R6 (SEV, %) e a produtividade (PROD, kg/ha) da soja. Modelos meta-analíticos sumarizaram quantitativamente três medidas de efeito (ME): o Z de Fisher (obtido pela transformação do coeficiente de correlação de Pearson), e os dois coeficientes das regressões lineares (β0 e β1) da relação SEV-PROD. Inicialmente, um modelo de efeito aleatório (MEA) foi ajustado aos dados de 225 ensaios. Devido a rejeição da hipótese de homogeneidade entre os estudos pelo teste Q de Cohan e alto valor da estatística I², modelos metaanalíticos de efeitos mistos foram ajustados (MEM) com as seguintes moderadoras categóricas: classes de severidade na testemunha (SEVtest), momento de início das epidemias (EPID) e safras (SAF). Os coeficiente de correlação médio global estimado (r) (transformação reversa do z) foi de - 0.60 (IC95% -0,63; -0,57) e a relação foi mais forte e negativamente associada em ensaios sobre alta pressão de doença (r = -0,71) comparados com os de baixa pressão (r = -0,42). O angular médio estimado (β1) foi de-17,5 kg/ha/% (IC95% -18,7; -16,2) na produtividade média estimada (β0) de 2958 kg/ha. O dano potencial relativo calculado foi de -0,58%/%, o qual decresce para -0,71%/% quando a doença inicia antes de R1, comparado quando a doença inicia após R1 (-0,50%/%), sugerindo maior impacto na produtividade. Para os ensaios com alta e moderada (>40% SEV) de severidade na testemunha, o dano potencial relativo foi similar, mas mais negativo para os ensaios com baixa pressão de doença (<40% SEV). Os modelos meta-analíticos sumarizaram e identificaram fatores que afetam a relação entre a severidade de ferrugem-asiática em R6 e a produtividade de soja e a estimaram os coeficientes que podem ser úteis na elaboração de cenários de risco.

Soybean rust, caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi, is one of the most damaging and economically important diseases of soybean in Brazil and worldwide. Cooperative trials have been conducted by members of the Consorcio Antiferrugem aiming at evaluating the efficacy of fungicides. Data generated in these network of trials, covering nine years of experimentation, were used in a meta-analysis of the relationship between rust severity at R6 phenological stage (SEV, %) and soybean yield (YLD, kg/ha). Metaanalytical models summarized three effect-sizes (ES): the Fisher’s Z (from transforming the Pearson’s correlation coeficient), and the two coefficients of linear regression models (β0 e β1) fitted for the SEV-YLD relationship. An overall efffect was estimated by a random-effects model (REM) fitted to data of 225 trials. When homegeneity across studies was rejected by the Cochran’s Q-test and high value of I², mixed-effects models (MEM) were fitted to the data and tested the effect of the following study-specific categorical moderator variables: severity class in the check treatment, timing of disease onset and growing seasons. The overall estimate of r(back-transformation of Fisher’s z) was -0.60 (CI95% -0,63; -0,57) and the relationship was stronger and more negatively associated in trials under high disease pressure ( r= -0,71) compared to lower disease pressure ( r= - 0,42). Estimate of β1 by a REM was -17,5 kg/ha/% (CI95% -18,7; -16,2) for an overall β0 of 2958 kg/ha. The overall estimate of the mean relative yield reduction was -0,58%/%, which decreased to -0.71%/% when disease onset was prior to R1 stage compared to after R1 (-0.50%/%), suggesting a higher impact on yield. For trials with high and moderate (>40% SEV) disease pressure, relative yield reduction was similar to the overall mean, but more negative for trials with lower disease pressure (<40% SEV). The meta-analytical models summarized and identified factors affecting the relationship between rust severity at R6 and soybean yield and the estimated coefficients can be useful scenario-based risk assessments.
